Candle Care Instructions
To ensure you get the most enjoyment from your candles, here are some easy-to-follow care instructions. Proper candle care can help extend the life of your candles and enhance the fragrance experience.
1. The First Burn: Burn for 2-4 Hours
When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn for 2-4 hours, or until the wax has melted across the entire surface. This prevents "tunneling," where the wax burns only in the center, leaving unused wax on the edges. A full melt pool will help your candle burn more evenly in future uses.
2. Trim the Wick
Before each burn, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A trimmed wick helps the candle burn more cleanly, reducing soot and preventing a flickering flame. You can use a wick trimmer, scissors, or even your fingers to trim the wick.
3. Burning Time
Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. After about 4 hours, let the candle cool and trim the wick before relighting. Prolonged burning can cause the candle to overheat, which may lead to excessive soot or a weakened scent throw.
4. Keep the Candle Away from Drafts
To avoid uneven burning or excessive flickering, place your candle in an area free from drafts, vents, or open windows. Drafts can cause the flame to move unpredictably and burn the candle faster than intended.
5. Keep the Wax Pool Clean
During burning, small debris like dust or wick trimmings can fall into the wax pool. If this happens, use a napkin or paper towel to remove it carefully once the candle has cooled. This will keep the burn clean and help the candle last longer.
6. Extinguishing the Candle
Avoid blowing out your candle with your breath, as this can create smoke or cause the wick to bend. Instead, use a wick dipper, candle snuffer, or gently blow the flame out to extinguish the candle. If you use the "blow-out" method, make sure to clean any smoke residue from the wick.
7. Storage
When you’re not using your candles, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. Direct sunlight can cause the color of your candle to fade, and heat can affect the fragrance.
8. Safety First
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Always place candles on a heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials like curtains or paper.
- Keep the candle wick centered and upright while burning to ensure even melting.
9. When to Discard Your Candle
Stop using your candle when only 1/2 inch of wax remains in the jar. Burning the candle past this point can cause the wick to fall over and result in unsafe burning conditions.
By following these simple care instructions, you’ll maximize the life of your candle, enjoy a clean, even burn, and experience the full fragrance from start to finish. Enjoy your candle and the cozy ambiance it creates!
